Any tips for securing a PPO?
Summary of the specifics
Importance of good relations within the company?
Criteria used while handing out PPOs?
How did you stand out among your colleagues?
Policies regarding PPOs?
AlphaGrep was already amongst the top 3 companies I was targeting. So, it was not a difficult choice to accept the PPO. Also, opportunities are not restricted to placements on campus, its just the first job. There will be many more coming up
Every company allots a mentor to the student. After some time into the intern work, ask your mentor about this on if they will give the PPOs or not. If yes, a mentor is the person whom you can ask for regular evaluation of yourself. That also has the benefit of mentors giving a positive review. Companies mostly lookout for passion even if work done is not perfect.
My team at Alphagrep took a post-intern coding test and interview before selecting me for the PPO. In the OCS during the interview for the internship, I had to go through 1 coding test and 3 rounds of interview.
Mostly they were testing my knowledge and skills in different aspects of Operating systems, data structures, algorithms and system design.

Ultimately, it’s the manager who decides your selection if the company has requirements of an employee. So, a senior or friend can definitely recommend someone if he/she is in the same team, but after that it’s the performance and attitude of the person that the manager sees.

First and foremost is do they have a need for an employee. HFTs are usually companies with a small number of employees and addition of each employee takes off a good share of profits from their table. So, for them priority 1 is if they need an employee. If they don’t then no matter how hard you work, you won’t get the offer.

Second, comes your performance. Relative if you have other intern team mates, but usually I feel it’s individually evaluated by your overall work. For me, I completed and deployed the project I was working on, so that was a positive.

Only 2 interns were there in my company from IIT Delhi. Moreover, we were working with completely different teams. So, there’s no such question of edge over other interns.

AlphaGrep doesn’t. But yes, some companies want to promote diversity into their companies due to which they may get inclined to give every college some amount of PPO offers.
Usually, the companies determine this by the number of employees they look for hiring and then they rank the contribution of each student in their work according to the feedback of their manager.
