It is a tough decision either to accept or reject the PPO. Some factors which helped me in deciding were how well the offered role matches with my interests, what better prospects does placement hold for me, currently in the COVID scenario what are the risks involved and the work culture I saw during my internship, whether I want to be a part of that or not. For me my role aligned with my interests in Analytics, then during placements as well ABInBev is among the best recruiters available to me in this domain. Adding Covid related instabilities, risks, and pressure involved in placement preparation, I decided to go for the PPO.
I can’t think of any mantra as such, but stay true to your objectives, take creative detours from your expectation charts and own up for whatever you did even if it went south. I don’t know whether buttering can influence this decision, but being kind and friendly definitely helps. In online scenarios, it’s tough to set up communication but reach out whenever you can so that you become an integral part of the company rather than an executable file running at specific time intervals completing the tasks.
In my case, it was a midterm evaluation and a final evaluation. We have to present ours as ppts in front of the panel. A major chunk of the feedback was sourced from our managers, but yes the evaluations do matter. Q&A session at the end matters a lot, they check your seriousness about your work through that.
I am not well suited to answer this as ABInBev had no IITD seniors working as full-time employees at the time of our internship, or at least none that I knew of. But still, out of 7 people from our college, 5 of us got the offer. So I cannot comment if it matters, but I can say surely that you can get an offer without any senior’s help.
One thing that company looks out definitely is how well you are a match with their ideology. In terms of excellence and work delivery, almost all IIT graduates stand on the same level. They make their final decision based on that one quality their company associates with itself, it can be innovation, responsibility, leadership, teamwork, or anything else.
My company specifically weighed on ownership a lot more than any other quality. In my project, I showed ownership from the start. I was the sole contact person for the entire clientele I was catering to, and this was unique considering I was just an intern. I think I stepped up to their expectations in terms of ownership and innovation of the problem that they assigned to me, and I delivered it to the fullest by the end of my term. I am not sure but I think this is what helped me in getting the PPO.
This varies with the scenario, but one thing remains more or less constant, most of the companies prefer PPO’s over placement offers. And this seems intuitive since two months of work offer more insight into the person than an hour of interview. So while there can be a rough number of offers they are trying to give out, companies will always prefer to have their vacancies filled through PPOs rather than placements.
