In normal times, I may have rejected the PPO but these are covid times. Nothing was certain. Whether companies will come. Those which do, will they give sufficient offers. How will these online placements work etc. But the thing that bugged me most was the new OCS rule. According to that if I would have rejected the PPO then I would have only been eligible for companies that come before Adobe’s slot. And Adobe usually comes on Day 1. So this further reduced the companies which I can apply for. Amidst all this, I thought it is better to secure the offer.
The things that matter most are how well you perform during the internship, how enthusiastic are you for the work, how well are you able to contribute to the project by giving more ideas, etc. So I would suggest to focus on the work and give your best. Also, it is better to maintain a good relationship with the mentor/manager you have been assigned. His/her positive feedback will definitely boost your chances to receive the PPO.
I didn’t have to go through any interviews nor any evaluations at the individual level specifically for PPO. However, there was a final presentation that our team had to give for the work we did in the internship in front of all the research associates and scientists, including those from the US.
In my case, it didn’t depend on the contacts with seniors. In fact, I don’t even know any seniors in Adobe persnally.
The criteria vary from company to company. Mostly it is based on the internship performance. But some companies also take interviews during the end of the internship. Those interviews are just like the usual placement interviews. However, Adobe did not take any specific interviews for PPO. It was solely based on the performance.
Actually, I don’t think that I did anything very special or different than my colleagues. In fact, everyone I know from our campus did receive the PPO. So like in my case, I can’t think of anything different which I did that contributed significantly towards getting the offer.
As far as I know, it mostly depends on the vacancies they currently have and how many vacancies they wanna fill with PPOs. I think that Adobe had already planned not to recruit much through campus placements(maybe due to covid) so it didn’t come in campus placements and therefore gave PPOs to around 75% of interns.
